Occasionally, authors would like to produce new publications from their previously published works. In considering proposals for such publications, the University Publication Committee applies the following guidelines:

Types of Publications

There are two types of publications which involve reusing the authors’ own previously published writings:

1. Publication of themed edited works (if the contributor is the editor), which collect the authors’ own articles that have been previously published in journals, proceedings, etc.
2. Publication of new original works (if the contributor is the author) which are generated from several of the authors’ own articles that have been previously published.

Submitting Publishing Proposals

The abovementioned publications are likely to involve copyright issues. To avoid any negative implication to the reputation of the authors and the university, the authors/editors who submit proposals to publish such works should take the following measures:

For the publication of themed edited works

• Detailing in the publishing proposal submitted to the University Publication Committee, all original works used, as well as the original publishers and year.
• Applying for written permission from the original publishers and submitting it together with the proposal form and the complete manuscript.
• Providing strong justifications for the need to republish the articles.

For the creation of new original works

• The scopes of the original and new works should be different.
• The author should treat the new work in a substantive manner to reflect growth in thinking from the findings of previous works.
• The reuse of materials from previous publications should be documented with citations, notes or quotations.
• Decision on suitability of publication is made based solely on evaluation of the complete manuscript. The University Publication Committee will appoint experts to evaluate the entire manuscript.
• The author should submit a copy of the original work if required by the assessors.
